Distressing

Distressing is the activity of making a piece of furniture or object appear aged and older.

Different grades of sandpaper are used to rough up the furniture’s painted surfaces and edges.

You can’t have shabby chic without a bit of distressing, and it really is what makes each piece of furniture truly unique.
