I have a thirst for transforming old and unloved pieces of furniture and injecting them with a new lease of life.

Who is Dickson Vintage?

My name is Cherry and I have a passion for beautiful furniture and all things interior.  I hope you will take inspiration from this site – from pieces of furniture I have worked on or from my blog for interior design ideas and upcycling techniques. I hope to help you through your decorating dilemmas and  offer inspiration.

Family & home

I’ve always been surrounded by “vintage” things.  I grew up on a dairy farm in rural Herefordshire, living in a country farm house over 600 years old.  All furniture and fabrics in my family home reflected this style of property and their evolution of use through generations of my family.

Education & the arts

I trained as a primary school teacher, and am passionate about teaching children about the Arts, and encourage them to explore their creativity.

It wasn’t until after having my first child, and starting to teach part-time, that I realised my desire to work with furniture and interiors.

Begins at home

Having already completely renovated our first Victorian home we moved to our second Victorian property.

Working part-time meant that we weren’t able to buy new furniture or to employ people to assist in renovating, so I focused my attention on learning to achieve this myself.

I attended a painting and effects Annie Sloan course where I learnt lots of new painting techniques, to focus what I already knew and the interest I had in creating new furniture out of old.

With these new skills in hand I set myself the challenge of kitting out our new home with upcycled pieces.  It was the finishing results that caught many of my friends’ attention and soon I had many requests to commission furniture.
